News Shorties: CMJ Showcase Tues 10/20, Octagon gets blog love, Jack and the Pulpits EP Francypants lands Oct. 6
Serious Business will be hosting it's 4th annual CMJ Showcase at Pianos on Tuesday October 20th @ 7:00pm. We've got six bands lined up:
The Unsacred Hearts
Benji Cossa & The Key Players
More to come in the following weeks as the showcase draws closer!
Stark Magazine said some nice things too: "The Octagon channel all the best parts of the post-punk sound. Their songs are melodic, well written, and executed with taste and restraint. While referencing greats like Pavement and Dinosaur Jr. The Octagon's music doesn't sound stale or knocked off. Their new EP has enough lo-fi swagger and modern sensibility to place them at the forefront of the current crop of break-out bands. Certainly a band to watch this fall heading into what promises to be another over-saturated CMJ season."
And not to forget our favorite non-gender-specific duo, Jack and the Pulpits, their new EP is scheduled to hit on October 6th. In the meantime, you can stare blankly at the release page or listen to the first track Francypants HERE.

News Shorties: SBR Gets Love, Rocketship Park in Studio, Two Man Gentlemen Band nominated for Deli Mag's "Band of the Month", Looker & Benji Cossa voted among Deli's "Best of NYC"
Beat The Indie Drum picked up on the awesomeness that is Serious Business and wrote a super nice post about us the other day. He wrote:
"If eclectic, homegrown independent record labels bring you endless joy, Serious Business is your man (or woman - pick your poison). I’m not sure why I sat on this so long but I guess the fact SBR recently posted a free Benji Cossa single (don’t forget to grab this too!) cajoled me to pony up and inform the ‘masses’. Almost all of the new label samplers I’ve heard lately have been pretty damn solid - this being one of my faves from the bunch."
The steadfast NYC indie-rock journal The Deli Magazine has most oddly nominated The Two Man Gentlemen Band as a candidate for BAND OF THE MONTH. We invite you to visit the link below to vote: http://thedelimagazine.com/nyc/snacks.php
Josh Kaufman's in the studio with the all-stars of the Serious Business extended family, recording what will surely be the greatest album ever heard. Stay tuned for a new Rocketship Park release coming shortly, but in the meantime checkout Mr. Kaufman's last krazy kreation, heard here.
And in a display of unabashed affection, Deli Magazine voted Looker 23rd and Benji Cossa 35th in its "Best of New York" edition. Check out Issue #18 Volume #2, Spring 2009 for some nice words about our pals.

Pictures From the Big Time, Live Album Imminent, New Councilman
-On July 10th and 11th the
Two Man Gentlemen Band
played two dates in Dayton and Cleveland with The Bob Dylan Show
starring Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and yes, Bob Dylan. The Gents
entertained many thousands of music fans, exchanged kind words with
Congressman Dennis Kucinich and Willie himself, and even signed an
autograph for William Howard Taft's great grandson. The Gentlemen will
play one more date with Dylan on July 31 at the Amphitheater at the Wharf
in Orange Beach, AL. Here are some photos from the shows.
-A few weeks ago, the Gentlemen packed about 50 people into the Serious
Business Music recording studio in Manhattan and played a rip-roaring
two-man concert which we recorded in glorious hi-fi stereo and which we
will be issuing as a live album. Once again, Richard Morris and Travis
Harrison manned the knobs.
-And here is the world premier of the Councilman's latest composition
which, God willing, will appear on the Gentlemen's next studio
offering. Folks, please enjoy "There's Something in My Trousers:"
