commentary
1. Rocketship Park - Because Two Candles from Off and Away (SBR16)

This is the lead off jam from the debut Rocketship Park jam-tome Off and Away. It is perfect "welcome" music, and deserves to be chosen to play over the credits of a great film, maybe one by Wes Anderson or someone cooler.

2. The Two Man Gentlemen Band - Dippin' Sauce from
Heavy Petting

Here's the Councilman's vocal showcase number from the third Gentlemen record. Later in this comp you'll get Andy Bean's touche, "the Rabbit Foot Stomp."

3. Benji Cossa - Volcano
- Benji Cossa and the Tightens LP (SBR28)

The Tightens record is a full-band live-in-studio record inspired by the classy and truthful sounds of the seventies. Its a must-own on 12" vinyl.

4. Looker - Gates of the Old City - from Born in the Desert (SBR30)

This is Looker's second full length (their 1st for SBR). This tune, the lead off track, first emerged as a digital single (SBR22) in February.

5. Higgins - Charly - from Zs (SBR28)

Zs is a colossus. This tune is Higgins at their brawniest. Not to be missed is the 4 minute drumgasm-intro to this song on Zs, "Prelude to a Charly."

6. Secret Dakota Ring - The Fade to Black
from Cantarell (SBR27)

"The Fade to Black" is a hit, through and through. With this song, Serious Business indulges our Hitsville hit-factory/hit-machine fantasies. Secret Dakota Ring is SBR co-founder's A-Ross' solo project and for this tune Team SBR/hit-machine stepped up to the plate with me TH on drums and knobs, Josh Kaufman on string arrangement, production and instruments and Joe Willie on the lyrics.

7. Jack and the Pulpits - Dance Area
from Jack and the Pulpits EP (SBR24)

Jack and the Pulpits plans to issue a whole series of these little 3 song EPs. they have material for days in their home hard-drive/milk crate. This song "Dance Area" is an instant classic. Money doesn't weigh that much, honey, but it holds a lot of weight on me and if you wanna be a broke little bunny you better get on the floor and dance with me.

8. The Homosexuals - Slow Guns
from Love Guns? 10" EP (SBR33)

Here is the Homosexuals' official return to vinyl. The first 300 copies of this 10" sold out in ten days. It was crafted at the Serious Business Music recording studio and hopefully is the first of several new offerings from Bruno Wizard, and the Homosexuals' family.

9. The Unsacred Hearts - Where Are You
from still forthcoming second Hearts album called The Honor Bar
The full length follow-up to In Defense of Fort Useless is called The Honor Bar and the Hearts have been at it, off and on, for almost three years. You'll hear it in '09 for sure. This song, with Andy Bean's trumpet debut, is a winsome demonstration of the Hearts' recent rootsy leanings.

10. The Two Man Gentlemen Band - The Rabbit Foot Stomp
from forthcoming fourth full length offering entitled Drip Dryin' with the Two Man Gentlemen Band (SBR35)
The fourth album from the Gentlemen is coming your way next month. Its called Drip Dryin' with the Two Man Gentlemen Band and on it you'll find instant classics such as "Drip Dryin'," "Hey Officer," "Fancy Beer," "Sloppy Drunk" and "Croquet Playing Girl."

11. Benji Cossa - April
from Benji Cossa's Vault Vol. 2: Jewels and Gems (SBR24)

"April" will be celebrated years from now as a full-on classic in the genre of 4 track indie-pop stuff and the fact the only a few of us know about it now is OK because when the world catches up we'll welcome them with open arms.

12. Higgins - Make a Mistake
- from Trust in Higgins Vol. 1 (SBR32)

Kevin and Brian recorded this one in a dark "in between period" after Dear Higgins and before Zs. This digital only record is FULL of gems like this. And Vol. 2 will emerge in '09.

13. Jack and the Pulpits - Show Off
from forthcoming 2nd JatP EP, a prequel to their first.
You'll be pleased to know that Josh and Annie will probably start playing shows as Jack and the Pulpits if enough of us beg them.

14. Boshra al Saadi - Daddy You Been On My Mind
unreleased Bob Dylan cover recorded in the men's room at SB -> (Dec 01. 2008)
You know Boshra as 1/4 of Looker. Her haunting all a capella take on this Dylan tune sends shivers down the spine.

15. Rocketship Park - Seasons
from Off and Away (SBR16)
We close out this comp with the final track on Off and Away (man, that record is impeccably sequenced!). This one glides off into the sunset as the closing credits roll.
